Facebook completes its 10th Anniversary today

    Categories: Internet

On 4th February, 2004 nobody knew not even did Mark Zuckerberg knew that what he had started in his dorm as project to connect friends and students in the Harvard University would one day become a global phenomenon and go on competing with the likes of Google, Yahoo, MySpace and other big tech giants. Today is the day where Facebook, the number social network in the whole world according to number of users. If you hadn’t read out this post then let me tell you Facebook has about 1.19 Billion active users monthly according to a report in September 2013.

On this day Mark Zuckerberg has written an inspiring but clever note on his Facebook account Wall. Mark Zuckerberg says that, “People often ask if I always knew that Facebook would become what it is today. No way.

I remember getting pizza with my friends one night in college shortly after opening Facebook. I told them I was excited to help connect our school community, but one day someone needed to connect the whole world.

I always thought this was important — giving people the power to share and stay connected, empowering people to build their own communities themselves.”

From the start Mark’s vision was to let people connect people in way they would comfortable to share information with them on their own. Just like Mark said he too didn’t knew that Facebook would become such a hit makes me remind of Steve Jobs’ words from his commencement in the Harvard University.

“You cannot connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”
– Steve Jobs

In his note on his Facebook Wall Mark gives credit to the people for making it a huge phenomenon and feels thanks to be a part of this revolution. “It’s been amazing to see how all of you have used our tools to build a real community. You’ve shared the happy moments and the painful ones. You’ve started new families, and kept spread out families connected. You’ve created new services and built small businesses. You’ve helped each other in so many ways.

I’m so grateful to be able to help build these tools for you. I feel a deep responsibility to make the most of my time here and serve you the best I can.

Thank you for letting me be a part of this journey.”

Facebook did specially posted a 10th Anniversary video on the site. If you haven’t watched it watch it here.
